Thermic Lance (TL) is one of the high-performance products. Because of its varied uses, there are different needs and requirements for employing Thermic Lance. For effective use of the Thermic Lance, it is most favorable to comprehensively understand which type of Thermic Lance should be used precisely with its various applications.

In this content, we are trying to provide overall information with concrete examples of Thermic Lance applications.

Thermic Lance and its Applications

Uses of Thermic Lance in Steel Mills

Slag has a melting point of around 1,780℃ which is difficult to remove from a metal system with a lower melting temperature. Therefore, in order to use this kind of slag removal, consumers will need a lance pipe that can generate a higher temperature which is greater than the melting point of slag that will help to melt down the slag and remove it.

Slags are generally stuck in plant decks, in ladle furnaces, on working floors, in mixer cars, in casting equipment, and so on. In this case, a thermic lance can be a choice for your consideration. Thermic Lance can produce a super high heat rate of up to 4,000℃ with Fe + O2 → Fe2O3 + Heat reaction.

Thermic Lance Type T is a mixture of wires and an inner pipe which yields a straight flame at high speed that splashes out, make holes, or break up materials quickly. Therefore, we recommend our customers to operate this type of lance during the removal of slag in their steel mills.

There are several ways to cut or shred scraps into small pieces before recycling them as materials for production. One of these is using Oxygen Lance for scrap cutting, especially with high hardness or huge-size scraps.

We recommend using type T for cutting conventional steel scraps in a scrapyard. Type W can be used for higher melting points like stainless steel.

Uses of Thermic Lance for Non-Ferro Alloys

Metal scraps are divided into two categories: ferrous and non- ferrous. The distinct characteristic between the two types of metals is the presence of iron.

Ferrous metals contain iron while non-ferrous do not. The table below only shows a summary of frequently used non-ferrous metals.

To get a safe and efficient tap hole opening, instead of using tools requiring human effort, Thermic Lance – with a lightweight and extended length with heat resistant capability up to 4,000oC higher than the melting point of most metals can be employed.

The workers should keep a suitable distance while using the Thermic Lance, ensuring the procedure being done completely.

Uses of Thermic Lance in Mining Industry

Mining is a tough industry that requires specific systems and machines to process effectively. Most of those are vast with high thickness and hardness. After using for long time, the parts pieces are used as materials for production in steel mill plants.

The below image is an ore bin closure which is a part of the Mining industry in which Thermic Lance could be used to support efficiently.

For the Mining industry, we recommend the application of Thermic Lance Type W to easily turn those vast huge parts into pieces.

Uses of Thermic Lance for Construction

Demolition is the process of tearing down, destroying, razing, or otherwise destroying a building or structure, in whole or in parts.

Mainly, the workers use excavators or concrete demolition hammers to break down constructions, buildings, interior walls, and so on. Though, due to specific areas, the harness of buildings, and the structure of concrete, using those tools and equipment would be tough for operators. Therefore, using stronger flames that are generated by thermic lance pipes would be a specific choice to resolve the situation regarding concrete demolition.

For Concrete Demolition, our recommendation would be application of Thermic Lance Type W for easily cutting down reinforced concrete structures.

Conclusion

Thermic Lance is one of our high-performance products. Because of its innumerable applications, there are various demands and requirements for employing Thermic Lance. It is advisable to use Thermic Lances with aluminum wires as a cutting tool to perform the work efficiently. It is advisable for consumers to be able to figure out the suitable type of Thermic Lance to suit their application requirement with safety, security, and most effective performance.
