Types of Lances and their usage in Blast Furnace Steel-making Process

The various types of lances used in the process of steel production by Blast Furnaces (BF) are as below:

Thermic Lance and SC Lance:

• Tapping Pig Iron

• Cleaning Ladle Furnace: After using for a long time in the steel making process, the residue of hard steel somehow sticks on the wall of Ladle Furnace. The SC lance can be used to melt down the residue from the Ladle. It is suitable to use as it does not occur any damages to the Furnace walls.

Thermic Lance is used for the position of steel melting flow.

• Converter: the workers use SC Lance pipe to clean stuck metal inside converter which appears following long-time usage after pouring out the liquid metals.

• Torpedo Cars – After long time usage, the workers use SC Lance pipe to clean stuck metal inside Torpedo car.

CA Lance:

It can be used in the same process as an alternative to SC Lance to enhance better performance. It is the choice of customers to choose comparing the same to SC Lance. Although CA Lance always gives better performance.

Types of Lances and their usage in Electric Furnace Steel-making Process

There are lots of procedures in steel production with Electric Furnace including Induction Furnace and Electric Arc Furnace. Below are some of the main activities where lance pipes would be used as materials to support the production.

• Thermic Lance: This is used for cutting scraps at the scrapyard which is used as input materials in the steel production process.

• CA Lance: This is used for injecting other additives and oxygen from the slag door of EAF.
