The new steel and the recycled steel scrap are often particularly produced in two ways- the Basic Oxygen Furnace (BF/BOF) and the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF).
Around 28% of the global steel production in 2020 according to the record of the World Steel Association is contributed by EAF. With the increasing proportion of steel scrap yearly and with the concerns of carbon dioxide has led many countries to switch to EAF for steel production.
If you are an EAF switcher who is interested in high productivity and ready to adopt an environmental method of manufacturing then this piece of information will be helpful with a better solution to business.
Today we are going to discuss about the ideal choice of steel pipe for Manufacturing.
Daiwa’s Calorized Lance and its performance
Source: Daiwa Lance International
The Calorized Lance (CA Lance) by Daiwa is the steel pipe with calorized coating. It is not only used for refining steel or melting steel by blowing oxygen but is also used for the insertion of carbon, lime, or other additives. The other uses also involve strong resistance against heat, oxidation, sulphuration, vanadium attack, etc. They are also used for removing slag from inside the oxygen converter.
The calorized layer or the ceramic coating both inside and outside of the pipe enables the pipe to withstand much longer time than the normal carbon steel pipe. This makes CA lance a better option for injecting oxygen or carbon in the steel making process.
Another important fact regarding CA Lance is that it lasts 3 to 10 times longer than mild steel pipes depending on the conditions in which the lance is used. To hold onto this conclusion, an experiment has been carried out to see how the CA Lance and the Carbon Steel Pipe reacts under high heat of 3000˚C flames. The results shows that that carbon steel pipes melts down in 20 seconds whereas the CA lances has longer lifespan of up to 151 seconds.

Different sizes of the Calorized Lance Pipes:

Considering the above sample sizes, the lance sizes with special lengths such as 3/4″ x 1.3M or 1-1/2″ x 9.0M are also manufactured as per the requirement of the customer.
Which Lancing type is Suitable for your Business?
The lances come in different specifications of threads. They can be either Thread Type or Threadless Coupling that are produced based on time saving and reliability.

For your better understanding, the details below might help you choose among the different options:
Type 1,2,3: The pipes can be connected together by hands without the need of any connecting machine.
Type 4,5: The pipes are welded together for better air leakage resistance. Generally, the customers who intend to buy smaller amounts of pipes are recommended to consider these two types of pipes.
Type 6: The Press machine is used for connecting pipes with threadless coupling. Using this type of pipe for the higher volume of consumption helps in air leakage resistance and easy connecting.

SDG and Global Mission in Green Steel Production:
Decarbonization is the obligation for all production on Earth and Daiwa Lance has committed to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide from the steel making process by providing the CA Lance with the customer. To fulfill this, along with business development, Daiwa Lance is on a mission to protect the environment following The Human Rights Guide to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
By reducing the number of pipes usages from the customers, Daiwa Lance’s product can contribute in reducing natural resources following Goal No.12.2 of SDG – “Achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.”
Again, the CA Lance can also require less to connect which reduces the working time thereby reducing the chances of labor accident in front of EAF, contributing to Goal No.3 of SDG- ““Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”.

The global mission is to switch the business with less Carbon Dioxide to protect the environment and also the mankind. This is our little step to a better world.
