As we are aware that the Calorized (CA) Lance Pipe is the main product of Daiwa. This lance is primarily used in the steel industries for smelting and refining of steel by blowing oxygen. It is also used in inoculation of carbon, lime or other additives. These CA Lances has a wide range of applications which not only includes the Electric Arc Furnace but also the Blast Furnaces.
Today we are going to discuss about this distinct application of the CA Lance made by Daiwa Lance International at the Blast Furnace.
Use of CA Lance at Blast Furnaces

The CA Lance Pipe is made up of calorized layer on the surface of the ERW pipes. This calorized layer is prepared through the process of diffusion and refractory coating. As both the calorized and refractory coated layers produce a strong heat resistance and anti-oxidization protection to the CA Lance, it also helps in minimum consumption of the lance pipe.
Though the common application of the CA Lance includes cutting steel scrap, smelting and refining steel at the Electric Arc Furnace, these lances also have applications at the Blast Furnaces, the primary being Tap hole opening.
Use of CA Lance for Tap Hole Opening:
Tap Holes which are situated at the bottom of the Blast Furnace, most of the times get stuck and hence are required to be opened periodically. Here comes, CA Lance Pipes to the rescue. This pipe helps in opening the Tap Holes to clear out the slag and the molten iron.
The CA Lance of OD 17.3mm(10A) or OD 21.4mm(15A) are generally used for this purpose.

Other cleaning purpose:
Daiwa’s CA Lances is also used for other cleaning purposes at the Blast Furnace like:
- Removing slag inside the oxygen converter.
- Removing spilled metal or slag on the floor, etc.

This is an interesting usage of the CA Lance which has longer life and reduces the working time too. It also saves the time in the steel making process in Electric arc Furnace and ensures safety to the workers.
