Thermic Lance is one of the useful performance products. The demands and requirements to using Thermic Lance varies depending on different purposes. Also, there are cases where typical thermic lances with steel wires do not provide enough power of fire for combustion. At times, it takes large quantities of pipe for cutting large scraps. After a long time of usage of Thermic Lance, it becomes difficult for the operators to hold it therefore a newly introduced thermic lances with aluminum wires makes it lighter in weight and easy to handle. It is also optimal to use Thermic Lance with aluminum wires as the cutting operation can be performed very efficiently.

Thus, in this segment, we’d like to introduce our new Thermic Lance with aluminum wires and also the test result to ensure good performance quality of the same.

Thermic Lance: New Structure

Thermic Lance is a steel tube which is used for cutting scraps, fusing metals and cleaning furnaces. The principle behind this is to harness the oxidation heat of high temperature by providing the pressurized oxygen inside an ignited steel tube. Generally, the metal tube contains the steel wires inside that promotes combustion.

The thermic lances produced are of 2 types to fulfill different requirements from end-users.

Type T combines a mixture of wires and an inner pipe which produces a straight flame with high speed that splashes out and make holes or breaks up the materials quickly. The materials suitable for Type T are carbon steel, iron, slag, copper, aluminum, brass, etc.

Type W combines a full pack of wires which produces a wider flame and higher temperature than Type T. Its distinctive feature is to dissolve solid materials that have high melting points such as stainless steel, refractory materials, concrete, nickel, natural stone, etc.

The new design of this Thermic Lance is created as the mixture of Aluminum and Iron Wires which is put inside the Steel Tube and depending on the structure of each size of pipe, the system is designed differently to make the performance efficient eventually.

Efficiency of Thermic Lance with Aluminum Wires

We have arranged an internal test to cut the roller with high thickness by Thermic Lance: 3/8″ x 3.0M to compare Thermic Lance with only Steel wires and Thermic Lance with a mixture of Aluminum and Steel wires to see the performance.

We have found the following observations:

  •  Energy Creation of (Steel wires only) Thermic Lance 19,840 Kilojoules
  •  Energy Creation of (Aluminum and Steel wires) Thermic Lance 21,777 Kilojoules

This new combination of steel and aluminum wires create around 10% more energy. Thermic Lance with aluminum wires is easily flammable, which can shorten the cutting time. Also, it reduces costs because of the 7% less consumption. The aluminum wires are itself lighter than steel wires, which makes it possible to reduce the weight of the pipe and shorten the working time, thereby reducing the workload.

Conclusion:

There are instances where traditional thermic lances made of steel wires are lacking to ignite a flame. Sometimes a lot of thermic pipes with steel wires are used before large fragments can be removed. Thermic lances are lighter and easier to control if aluminum wires are added which also helps the factory workers to operate. To complete the work effectively, it is useful to employ a thermic lance with aluminum wires at the manufacturing site.
